Opinion Poll

Hi everyone, I will be extending the Opinion Poll until March to see how the trends develop. At the moment Balchik is just ahead as your favourite place in Bulgaria but we shall see if this lasts till March.

I am glad I extended the poll as it's now neck and neck with Sofia now climbing up with VT and Balchik. It would be informative if you could post when you vote, with what it is you like so much about these places.

BTV News Last Night

Private TV Channel BTV aired again, a 4 year old documentary related to dodgy church land sales in the Rogachevo/Obrochishte area.Land was sold at a pittance and then re-sold for 200,000 Euro's.Guess what ?; the Limo-loving Bishop of Varna was involved in that too.Obviously BTV Novinite senses blood here as they devoted half the evening news to the programme.Something seems really rotten at the heart of the Varna Bishopric !. And to think that this individual is a serious candidate to replace Patriarch Maxim, the Head of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.

Uncles' Comment: Statistics in Bulgaria are notoriously unreliable. However if we take the year on year figures and then look at the last quarter it seems to show a flattening out of the market. That might more correctly be called a 'flat-lining' since, with stagnant demand, it cannot begin to recover until liquidity returns to the market.

Uncles' Comment: This so called 'deal' has gone through without government approval, and is there fore a 'non-deal'.Eon was widely regarded as a poor provider, and has probably opted out of the Bulgaria as it is not so profitable as its more lucrative Western European markets.
