This woman and her son are incredibly brave.Investigative journalism in the Balkans is a dangerous occupation.

Uncle is Back

Readers will have noticed the lack of posts recently. This was due to the trauma of moving house and the disruption it causes to connections with the outside world, such as the internet and tv.

I am glad to report that things are gradually getting back to normal and, by next week, everything will be back to its usual standard (or lack of).

Pound hits 2.45 lv !

Due to the continuing instability in the Eurozone, the pound has become a so called safe haven, and is now 20% higher than two years ago.It is also at its highest point since approximately 2008.

Since Greece is almost certain to leave the Euro, be prepared for further sharp rises for the pound, my prediction is that it will be at 2.55 by July. Two years ago it was 2.03 lv to £1.

This is great news for British tourists and investors as your pound goes much further here.

British people are now very worried about travelling to Greece, in case the currency collapses overnight and they are stranded with Euro's they cannot spend. It is likely that the Euro exit will be announced over a weekend (when the banks are closed) and there will be extra bank holidays on the following two days.At this point all cash machines will be switched off and bureau de change are besieged.A nightmare scenario.

Bulgaria maybe is not as beautiful as Greece, but at least it's safe !.

No company creation to buy property in Bulgaria for EU citizens

To those of you who missed it, the requirement to have a company to buy a house or land in Bulgaria has been abolished. At last this ridiculous impediment to property ownership has been placed in the dustbin and it represents a significant move to revive the housing market. The requirement still applies if you are purchasing agricultural land or if you are non-EU nationals.

An excellent critique of loony right wing economics. Now is the time for the state to take action, not simply make cuts.Start investing in infrastructure, make the banks lend again, god knows the UK government, for instance, owns alot of them !.Cutting workers wages and attacking their employment rights are the answers to a completely different agenda.
