Horse racing near Balchik
The summer racing season has commenced at Strajitsa racecourse near Balchik.First race is at 2pm every Saturday. For further details just ask on this thread.
Editors Note: It is obviously not Bulgaria, from memory it is York in England.Photo's of Strajitsa can be found by searching the blog.It is archive illustration.
Hi from Stratford, East London. Have been trying for ages to find out about racing in Bulgaria, specifically jump racing. A Bulgarian mare called Vezna ridden by a guy called Milev won the Pardubicka in the Czech Republic in 1970 and they had runners there at least until the 80's. I've seen mention of courses outside Plovdiv and at Bankya near Sofia and now Strajitsa here. If you had any info re: contacts/whether, when and where they race over jumps/state of play ... anything !! it would be greatly appreciated as it ain't easy to find out.

This is all I have. They did have a website but it was wildly out of date. There are other meetings in Shumen, but they are impromptu roped- off meetings.Strajitsa can only be described as Cartmel on the worst day ever !.I have seen flat meetings, trotting and steeplechasing there. There is a stand there, parade ring, no betting well official anyway.Entry is 1lv or 40p.
interesting, i didn,t know there is a such a racecoarse there..
