Varna Bulgaria's 'Sea Capital'

Varna is the Third City in Bulgaria after Sofia and Plovdiv, but it is also known as the 'Sea Capital'.
In summer its population swells from 350,000 to 700,000. It has the usual unprepossessing communist blocks, but also a charming 19th century centre with some nice period buildings including the Opera House. The main boulevard is Maria Luiza, but the heart of the city is in the pedestrianised centre, down which it is lovely to take a stroll to the sea garden. A great place to visit.
Varna is located on the Northern part of Bulgaria's Black Sea coast. There are direct flights from London Luton to Varna.Hotel accommodation is from £20 a night.
