New Monument to the British Crimean War Dead

At the weekend a monument was unveiled in Devnya, near Varna, to the 700 British soldiers who died of Cholera whilst in transit to the Crimea in 1854.

Its a nice gesture but a little bit odd as there is no mention of the 3000 French soldiers who also died.Secondly the soldiers were fighting on the Turkish side against the Russians (Bulgaria's eventual liberators) and the Russian defeat set back Bulgarian independence for twenty years.

Still, a nice touch.
