Selling your property in Bulgaria ?

Like many people in the past few years you may be considering selling your property in Bulgaria.Times are hard and you may want to recoup your money, or at least some of it.I have always preached realism on this blog and if your property is in relatively good condition, near the coast and in the Dobrich or Varna counties, then I can market it for you.Properties offered must normally be under 50,000 Euros unless exceptionally good.If you are in doubt then submit them for valuation at info@gobg.co.uk or via the link in the post heading to my website.

This only goes to show how amazingly naive people can be here. But crime in Bulgaria is nowhere near as prevalent as, for instance, UK cities and certainly not with opportunistic crime or muggings.

Weather Request

I have had articles related to the current atrocious weather in Bulgaria viewed 61 times since yesterday.I think that some of these are people who are due to come to Bulgaria soon.I can tell them about some of the conditions here in North East Bulgaria and about airports that are I know that are open or closed.

However, it would be helpful to these people if those of you who are reading this blog in Bulgaria could post about the conditions in your village/town/area/region to help them plan their journeys more effectively.

Bulgaria / Romania Snow Conditions & Weather Map

Bulgaria / Romania Snow Conditions & Weather Map

It looks like North East Bulgaria is getting off lightly with 0-5cm.

Snow so and more snow !

Finally we are getting some snow here and accompanying freezing temperatures. It will be down to -12c on some nights and the next day it will get above freezing looks likely to be February 2nd.
I know that for friends around Veliko Turnovo they are already stranded in their village, as the snow has been bad for days, but we always have more mild weather near the coast. This weather is ok if you are warm, have plenty of food and tv/internet, but power cuts are frequent and long in the remote areas.

On the blog front we are now approaching 30,000 readers which is very pleasing and,due to the weather, I have plenty of time to update it's content.Balchik appears to be in the lead in our 'favourite place in Bulgaria' poll and please feel free to register your votes.

It's finally snowing !

Well, seemingly days after alot of people, it is finally snowing here.It started a little while ago and the temperature is below freezing so we can expect it to stay till tomorrow. It is not the snow I object to too much it is the ice that accompanies  light snow, or when it starts to thaw out. From the medium term forecast it seems we are not in for the usual big snowfall, at least not just yet.

British Tourism to Revive in Bulgaria ?

The Bulgarian Tourist Authorities are flying in several UK Travel journalists to show them the best that Bulgaria's winter tourist delights can  offer. This includes Bansko and Rila Monastery.

In 2010 300,000 British tourists visited Bulgaria and the target is 500,000. Obviously getting some travel hacks over here on a jolly up is a pretty good idea, but the Bulgarians are in fact simply playing 'catch-up' with UK holidaymakers. The UK market probably peaked in 2007 with the holiday home market, and the statistics quite clearly show that people who go on holiday to Bulgaria never come back for a second helping.Principally this is due to poor service and bad infrastructure.

Therefore until the service/infrastructure issues can be addressed the Travel writers will have a tough time selling Bulgaria to those who have been before.

Pound surges against Euro

Uncles Comment : What this actually means is that nearly a year ago it was close to £1 for 1 Euro. Now the pound buys 20% more, coupled with the 40% fall in property prices in Bulgaria, it makes this country attractive to investors again.
Fascinating article from the Guardian

sterling has hit a one-year high against the euro.
The euro just fell below the 83p mark for the first time since early January 2011, hitting a low of 82.99p. That means one pound is worth €1.2049.
The word in the foreign exchange markets is that traders are shifting out of the euro and back into "safer assets". This morning's economic data - which strongly suggested that the eurozone is heading into recession - has added to the pressure on the euro.
As Gary Jenkins, analyst at Swordfish Research pointed out this morning:

The most likely scenario is that a lack of growth and the large debt levels in Europe will lead to investors approaching some of the peripheral bond markets as one might approach a hungry lion. That is, very carefully, if at all.
2.26pm: As the graph below shows, it's barely three years since the pound and the euro were almost at parity (€1 reached 98p on 29 December 2008).
Euro against pound exchange rateEuro against pound exchange rate
Even at today's one-year low, the euro is still strong against the pound in historic terms (having traded between 60p and 72p to the pound for most of the last decade, before rising towards near-parity once the financial crisis began).

    January Sales

Please take a look at my  property website.Virtually all properties on it are discounted from the prices shown to reflect the recession. If you cannot find something that fits your requirements just let me know and I will see what I can do.Remember that Bulgarian prices are down around 40% since 2008.
