Romania to get first Muslim Prime Minister ?

Sevil Shhaideh, 52, may become Romania's first Muslim Prime Minister, as well as the first woman to hold this position in the country's history. She comes from a family with Tatar-Turkish origins and her husband is Syrian. The Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the Liberal Democratic Alliance (ALDE) told President Klaus Iohannis that they support Shhaideh for Prime Minister.
Added factor now is that the woman's Syrian husband is apparently a supporter of President Assad.
The latest update is that President Iohannis has refused to nominate her, she is widely perceived as a puppet of PSD Baron Liviu Dragnea (who is banned from the office as a result of a conviction for electoral fraud last year).

Bulgarian airports are enjoying an unprecedented boom .
Sofia airport alone recorded a 14 % growth in the 8 months up to September. and in that month Ryan Air opened its new hub at the airport, this will push all year growth above 15%.
Bourgas and Varna are recording 23 % and 21 % growth. A record 7.5 million passengers passed through all the airports last year.
Bourgas actually gets more passengers than Sofia in Summer, as visits to the former Red Riviera (also known as the Black Sea), increase massively.
This is part of an increasing pattern of more flights to Eastern Europe.Budget airlines are leading the drive.

Hitrino Train Disaster in Bulgaria Latest

The latest on the train disaster, not far from Dobrich in North-East Bulgaria, is that 8 are dead, over 20 injured, many with burns. The compensation for those who have lost their homes (or are very damaged) is just €162.50, which is pathetic .

If you search the internet, you can find places to donate money. It appears the antiquated rail system cause the explosion, the highly flammable load came in contact with electricity, Bulgarian railways has the worst safety record in the EU.The people affected are very poor, even by Bulgarian standards. Here is a place to donate to the Red Cross.

Saint Nicholas Day in Bulgaria

In Bulgaria, Saint Nicholas' day is celebrated on the 6 December as Nikulden. Families invite relatives, sponsors and neighbours for a meal of fish (usually ribnik, a carp wrapped in dough) and two loaves of ceremonial bread, all of which are blessed at church or at home. The host wafts incense over the table, then lifts and breaks the bread. Bulgarians also observe 6 December as the name day for those named Nikola, Nikolay, Kolyo, Nikolina, Neno, Nenka, Nikolina and Nina. St Nicholas is the patron saint of fisherman, his full title is St. Nicholas the Wonderworker , and the origin of Santa Claus.

The Graffit Gallery Hotel in Varna has won both best hotel and best boutique hotel in Bulgaria at the 2016 World Travel Awards in the Maldives. It also won both categories last year, a major honour and boost for Bulgaria's sea capital. The prices are reasonable too. The hotel is located just off Kniaz Boris Street near the Sea Garden and the Happy Bar/McDonalds.

First Sofia Metro Line Running Again after Monday Failure - Novinite.com - Sofia News Agency

Something very odd is going on in the currency markets this morning

This morning I put up a post on this blog that the pound was worth 2.85lv.I double checked later on, and the same site that I looked at earlier was changed to 2.32lv, so I took the original post down. I have now checked half a dozen current sites and the rates are anything from 2.32 to 2.78. This just cannot be correct.Someone could make quite a killing if they could get 2.78.I am very confused !.

What price the pound ??.
