McCarthy's Irish Bar, Sofia

I had a wonderful couple of visits to this bar, which is just off Vitosha Blvd down Alabin St. and opposite a McDonalds. It is located upstairs through a doorway marked 'Sonata'.Once you have discovered it the bar is quite lovely. It is dark with lots of Irish stuff on the walls. There is regular live music and the landlord and staff are very friendly.Guinness at 6 leva a pint is very reasonable, and there is an extensive range of spirits (the landlord, out of the blue, bought me a Bushmills Black Bush).

I like places that are fairly genuine and this is certainly it in terms of hospitality. There is no food, it is a pub for lovers of booze, music and the craic !.
