Whilst on recommendations, I would point you in the direction of this newest addition to Sofia nightlife.It is located off Graf Ignatief Street near Vitosha Blvd. The bar is on two levels, the upper level has a light and airy decor with nice sofa's by the side of the bar.There is a nice range of Czech beer at 3.90lv a pint and some nice coffees etc.Downstairs is a great cellar bar with lovely stone walls, it is dimly lit with a great atmosphere.The emphasis is on quality service.There is regular live music.
McCarthy's Irish Bar, Sofia
I had a wonderful couple of visits to this bar, which is just off Vitosha Blvd down Alabin St. and opposite a McDonalds.It is located upstairs through a doorway marked 'Sonata'.Once you have discovered it the bar is quite lovely.It is dark with lots of Irish stuff on the walls.There is regular live music and the landlord and staff are very friendly.Guinness at 6 leva a pint is very reasonable, and there is an extensive range of spirits (the landlord, out of the blue, bought me a Bushmills Black Bush).
I like places that are fairly genuine and this is certainly it in terms of hospitality.There is no food, it is a pub for lovers of booze, music and the craic !.

The Presidents words are interesting.You cannot have a functioning democracy when the people are sidelined by oligarchs.Bulgaria desperately needs a new politics that addresses this issue plus that of low wages and chronic unemployment.
